Role-playing A Fat Character!
So you want to start role-playing a fat character? Here's a few simple tips and tricks that might help you in your adventure to properly role-play an overweight character.

You're not a track star!

If you wish to realistically role-play your character as overweight then be prepared to deal with the couple of obstacles you need to jump over (no pun intended). Your character is unhealthy and gets easily tired when faced with strenuous physical activity (i.e running, walking for a long period of time, fighting, and walking up long flights of stairs). This means that you're character needs to take extra precaution before committing illegal activities (i.e robberies, beat-downs, and public executions). If this means that you need to take a rain-check on a planned robbery because the chances of you being chased and caught are high than that is a problem your character has to overcome.

Your health is important!

You don't have to be humongous to have health problems, studies show that people who are around 5'9 and 162-202 lbs are obese. You have to use good judgement OOCly to determine if you're character's weight calls for health problems. Things such as, Exercise-Induced Asthma, Heart Problems, High blood pressure, and Cholesterol problems. Role-playing your character having to take his medicine or going to the doctor is very realistic role-play and can be built upon if you do it correctly. Role-play getting calls from your pharmacist or doctor to schedule an appointment, use your imagination!

Prepared to be bullied, fatso!

If you're character lives in a ghetto or a gang-oriented area prepared to be bullied. Your weight doesn't just cause medical problems but social problems as well. Face the facts! Bigger people are not seen as ideally attractive so get ready for rejection as well. This should give your character a different type of trait, maybe he's more smooth with his words to make up for physical appearance. Maybe he knows how to snap back at someone who's insulting you. Whether you character has tough skin or not is entirely up to you, but it is always good to use different variables to develop your character. For example, if you're leaving in a ghetto and you've been bullied all your life about your weight you may have developed some tougher skin and learn how to retaliate differently.

There are some perks..

Being fat isn't entirely bad, it actually gives you an advantage when fighting. You possess more weight than your opponent 8/10 times, use it to your advantage big boy! You may not be quick with the hands, but you've got your weight! Push them to the ground! Sit on them! Play dirty! Life wasn't fair to you so why should you be fair? If you're character is taller than the average than he should be feared! It's usually the smaller people who get picked up but if you're built like a brick house and tall than you can use it to your advantage. Being fat was a choice, but so is gaining respect. Use all YOUR assets to your advantage and you'll be on top in no time.. hopefully..

Who want's to be fat? Lose some weight big boy!

Who said your character had to be fat for the rest of his life? Use all the negative energy you receive due to your weight and put it in the gym. Working out and losing weight is a thing that takes time, so in return use it as a huge character development chance. Especially if you're in a faction, gym RP can be enjoyable to watch and shows others that you take character development seriously. Use any motivation you want for example, You're tired of being pushed around, or tired of being made fun of, maybe it's a personal thing and you want to be healthier, or maybe you want that girl you see all the time who won't give you the time of day. Use your imagination and have fun!

Closing Statement

Congratulations friend, you've decided to take a big step in character development and portray a fat character. It's one of the most overlooked character types you can portray. Anyways, fat or not, it's all about having fun! Portraying a fat character opens up a whole other page of opportunities in development. As a veteran fat character role-player myself, I have to say that it is one of the most fun things that you can do on the server as long as you don't have a play-to-win attitude and know how to take a loss here or there.
